Working in collaboration with established insurers and a mobile operator, the NTT Group developed a mobile-centred online service with four simple product offers.
Buyers could obtain cover at low cost for any period between one day and a full month. The premium is paid direct via their mobile phone bill. As the network already holds a great deal of data about the customer the process of buying is streamlined and simple. Using their mobile phones network subscribers can buy short-term cover for travel and sports activities (like golf and skiing) at the last minute. Take-up from launch demonstrated genuine demand and the service has successfully generated revenue that would never have been tapped through more conventional means.
